Green View Garden, Cameron Highland

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Last Labour Day weekend was spent back in hometown. Since mum had day off from work and there is nothing much to do anyway, off to Cameron Highland we went.

Our first stop, and the best stop of the whole one-day trip - Green View Garden.

fridge

Strawberry goodies - Cakes, strudels, puddings, salad and chocolates.

strawberry cheesecake

We had this strawberry cheesecake.

strawberry strudel

And strawberry strudel.

strawberry juice

Fresh strawberry juice.

strawberry chocolate fondue

Chocolate fondue. Served with strawberries, chocolate love letters and marshmallows.

fondue

Yummy!

There were so many pit stop cum vegetables/flower/ fruit farm cum rest and relax cum dining cum shopping area scattered around Ringlets, Tanah Rata, Brinchang and in between but this place is by far the best. It was spacious and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The wide array of western food and desserts makes me want to return for more.

The rest of the trip though, was not as good. Remember the Watercress Valley that I USED TO give good reviews of? I retract back my statement. If you happen to pass by there, don’t stop. Move ahead to somewhere else. That place had turned into a money sucking, tourist conning place. I should seen the telltale sign by the brand new Mercedes Benz parked right in front of their place.

They charge for every single thing and the food was cutthroat expensive. They charge RM0.30 for toilets and RM1.00 just for looking at the watercress! I don’t see the reason to charge people for looking at the farm when it is free in other farms. There were nothing impressive anyway, unlike beautiful flowers or fruits. They even closed the dining section so that the view is not accessible unless you dine in.

As for dining in, well for a steamboat meal consist of a soup base, a small basket of vegetables, ten meatballs, three stuffed chillies, three stuffed bean curd skin, ten suikow, two balls of noodles and two glasses of drinks, we were charged a whooping RM72.00. Despite the price stated in the menu, they will over charge you, knowing fully well that once you left you can’t make any complaints anyway.

So, be careful.

Dinner @ Watercress Valley

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

By now I guess bored you with a lot of foodie posts of Cameron Highland, but don’t worry, because this is the last post, since this is our last stop before going back home.

Look at the terrains loaded with greeneries. Nice, isn’t it? Soothing to the eyes.

watercress farm

Yup, those are watercress. A whole farm planted with watercress.

watercress farm

The views are good isn’t it? Now, would you like to cook some sliced meat and vegetables in a hotpot while enjoying the green green views and cold weather?

If the answer is yes, then this place is a must drop by! Self explanatory signboard. This is our last pit stop before we went downhill, and boy, the temperature is decreasing very rapidly, I must say!

teapot

The teas in the teacups got all cold a minute after they are being poured out of the teapot. Brrr! I will have to disappoint you if you are looking for steamboat pictures, because we hadn’t had any due to time constraints.

dumplings in watercress soup

We decided on some ala carte dishes so that we could have dinner quick and start our journey. We ordered a bowl of sui kaw, or meat dumplings in watercress soup. The soup is clear, refreshing and had a pleasant hint of watercress.

stirfried belacan watercress

Sambal belacan watercress, or stir fried watercress with shrimp paste. This is the first time I eat stir fried watercress, because most of the time it was watercress soup for me. This is a great watercress dish! Totally tasty and unexpected. We had the two dishes pictured, and a fried rice, which is normal.

Apart from sambal belacan stir fry, the place also serves watercress stir fried in numerous ways, curry dishes and fried rice, noodles and the likes, along with their steamboat. Their steamboat is the type where could choose what you want from a fridge and they will keep a tab on what you took.

thick fog

Its a pity that I didn’t get to sample their charcoal fire steamboat, so I must have by the next trip! By the time we finished our dinner, the sky was blanketed with fog. It was so cold that I was shivering nonstop. The drive downhill was a a bit on the scary side due to the fog, so if you are planning a one day trip, don’t go back too late, or you will end up like us.

Tea and Scones @ Cameron Highland

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

This is one of the pit stops we made during our Cameron Highland family excursion.

cameron valley

Cameron Bharat Plantations in Ringlets. Nice view of the tea valley, isn’t it? The cooling weather and breezy air is very relaxing. It is nice to have some tea to wash down the wild durians we had during the last pit stop, which I will talk about later.

tea

Teas for everyone.

tea

Tea with milk, sugar or both?

Scones

Scones with frozen cream, butter and strawberry jam to go with the tea.

cashier and queue

The teashop sells butter cakes, carrot cakes and tuna sandwiches as well. They serve a few types of tea, and business was brisk during the Sunday I was there. There is a souvenir shop selling tea leaves and souvenirs as well.

tea leaves

The view was great and the food was pleasant, so it really worths a drop by to try a variety of Cameron Valley teas if you are visiting Cameron Highland.
