Italiannies @ One Utama

smoothie

Took a long hiatus, during which I went One U with sis and we had salmon cream fetuccine.

fetuccines

Initially we wanted to order carbonara, but it was cheaper during lunch and since it was well over lunch time and the difference in price tag makes us order something that is of the same price throughout the day.

fetucinnes

Talk about being cheapskate, LOL!

Modesto’s - Bar-Pasta-Pizza-Party

modesto's

My first Modesto’s experience, and they are good! It all started with me stopping in Klang before adjourning my journey back to Malacca, and Aunt Pat asked me to join her and her daughter in-law, Stephanie for lunch. They sort of like wanted to have pizza, so pizza it is then. We were in Centro and Modesto’s looks interesting, so we walked in. Being a restaurant who also serves liquor, not unlike a pub, we are not too sure with the food, so we all went for the easy combo meal, which comes with either easy pizza that comes in a slice, or easy pasta, with a soup and soft drinks, all for RM16.90++. Prior to serving the meals, they also serve us with some chips, which is very nice! No idea what it was though.

mushroom soup

Their soup, omg, they spoil us with choices. Aunt Pat had this mushroom soup.

onion soup

Steph had this French onion soup, and the onions are perfectly caramelized. Yummy!

minestrone

My minestrone. Taste is good, although they could use more filling ingredients, such as beans. Not that I am complaining though.

salmon cream

I must have pasta, so I ordered their salmon cream spaghetti. You can choose your pasta between spaghetti, fetuccine and penne.

Another shot, because I like it so much.

pizza

Aunt’s pizza. Steph had pizza too, but I couldn’t manage to get a picture. Both gave positive feedback of their food, so I must return next time and bring my sis! She loves pizza.

Portion-wise, they are not too big, so big eaters might be disappointed.

Pasta with Asparagus, Beef and Sauteed Mushrooms

pasta

As much as I love pasta, having a good meal of pasta outside the kitchen will cost so much that I could very well make a few rounds of pastas at home. Therefore, when I am hardworking enough, I will whip up my own pasta. Its very satisfying.

Two weeks back I was craving for some good ol’ pasta so, I foraged the fridge for whatever I have and try to finish using my raw ingredients before they expire. (Well, yeah most of the time I am like that. )

This is what I used:

spaghetti, cook al dente and drained
white button mushrooms (sliced)
green onions (chopped)
beef slices (seasoned with salt, pepper and some cooking wine)
asparagus

Method:

In a pot, boil water enough for cooking spaghetti. When the water is boiling, dump in the cleaned and trimmed asparagus into the water for a minute or so. Dish it up, leave it aside and put the spaghetti into the boiling water that you’ve cooked the asparagus in. Let the asparagus cool and dress it up with some olive oil or French salad dressing if you like. Alternatively, you could have them as it is.

In the meantime, heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet. Quickly fry both sides of the beef slices. Do not overcook them. Dish and arrange on a platter. In the same skillet you fry the beef, add in the onion and saute until fragrant. Add in the sliced white button mushrooms and cook until soft. Remember to add salt, pepper, coking oil and some herbs to your liking.

Now that everything’s done, dish them all up and dig in while its hot. In front of the computer, like me.

Spaghetti Carbonara

carbonara

Spaghetti carbonara is a once in a while pasta for me, and with cream and crispy fried bacons it is not hard to see why. The bacon is just so irresistible that I always fry more of them and munch them as snacks. Bad for cholesterol, but sinfully good.

bacons on spaghetti

Don’t eat this often

Then again, who could resist bacons and cream?

Ingredients:

200g spaghetti (I just simply grab)
2 tsp olive oil
100g bacons, sliced
1 mounded tablespoon butter
2 cloves of garlic minced finely
100ml whipped cream
1 egg
1 whole egg
black pepper

Method:

  1. Boil the spaghetti as instructed.
  2. Heat up olive oil in pan and fry the bacons until crispy, dish the bacon and set aside, leaving the bacon oil in the pan. Add in garlic and saute them until they are fragrant.
  3. Pour in the cream and let it simmer, careful not to let it boil.
  4. Prepare a large bowl to toss the spaghetti. Put the bacons, egg and black pepper into the bowl.
  5. Add in the spaghetti, and subsequently the cream sauce.
  6. Toss evenly, and serve them up as soon as possible.

This is how my carbonara looks like after tossing. If the sauce it too dry, add some milk and it is good to go. I prefer mine without the egg because I am phobia to raw eggs. A drizzle of white wine will give this pasta good flavour, but since I don’t have any, I just omit it.

Or alternatively, with loads of crispy fried bacons. Bon apetit!

When one manages the feat of getting orlando hotel reservations done, minor feats like air travel time don’t really matter at all. What matters is the fact that of all the resorts, one is getting to stay in the best one. This is why rest of the travel arrangements should be made with care, and airline tickets should be there well before time. To get cheap flights to london, time should be covered efficiently. Only when everything else goes right, will you be able to make to your hotel rooms.
