While I personally prefer Sakae Sushi, there just isn’t any in Malacca, and the independent Japanese restaurants are a bit too far. When I feel like having Japanese meals then, Sushi King it is.

Sukiyaki nabe.
Fish and rice set.

Uhh, fried fish.
The food quality differs from branch to branch and taste pretty commercialized, so, once in a while is good, definitely not a must go favourite for me.

Soft shell crabs from Sakae Sushi.

Soft shelled crabs! Glorious soft shell crabs! Two of ‘em glorious crabs!

These crabs has got a lot of eggs, according to sis. Hmm. We had this at Sakae Sushi Aeon Bukit Tinggi.

And a gyuu niku ramen. I love beef noodles! A bit too rich for supper, but its just once in a while.

We were curious about how the shop.
We were curious about the food.
Sushi King downstairs was too crowded.

That was how J and I found ourselves in Moritomo, the dark and gloomy Japanese restaurant beside the amusement park in Jusco Melaka.

This place is serves alcohol, and their menu is quite complete. Not knowing what to order, we decided on a sushi set. I supposed sushis are hard to screw up, hehe.
It does look like the food replica displayed outside the restaurant but the taste was pretty authentic. Very different from the kaiten belt stuffs, nice!

What is Chinese New Year without lou sang? This time round after a hearty yee sang at home with my family, I 捞 生(lou sang-ed, stir the yee sang like mad, LOL!) another yee sang ala-Japanese at Sushi King after seeing it in Allen’s blog. The small set retails at RM8.88. Auspicious, eh?
The plate is too darn small that it spilled everywhere, causing wastage. They don’t have those crispy crackers (neh, those that is known as pok pok chui) either, but instead substituted it with tempura flakes.
I still prefer Chinese traditional style yee sang though.

I am a soup person. That means, I would love to have soup with all my meals if possible, so most of the time when I cook at home, I will try to make myself a bowl of miso soup because they are convenient and easy to make. Miso soup is very nutritious too!
Ingredients:
3 cups dashi soup stock
seaweed (if the miso paste doesn’t come with them)
vegetables (optional I usually use leek and occasionally mushrooms)
1 block tofu
clams or some other seafood (optional)
3-4 tbsp miso paste
1/4 cup chopped green onion
Method:
Put dashi soup stock in a pan and bring to a boil. Since I don’t have dashi stock, I usually boil water and add the vegetables into the boiling water to soften. The vegetables will add a hint of sweet natural flavour to the soup.
In the meantime, cut tofu into small cubes and add them to the soup. Simmer the tofu for a few minutes on low heat. Right now if you have anything else to put in, such as clams and enoki mushrooms, put them in as well.
Scoop out some soup stock from the pan and dissolve miso in it. Gradually return the miso mixture in the soup. Stir the soup gently. Stop the heat and add chopped green onion. Remember not to boil the soup after you put miso in, because that will spoil the subtle flavour of the soup.
Serve them with your meal of rice!
