Last Labour Day weekend was spent back in hometown. Since mum had day off from work and there is nothing much to do anyway, off to Cameron Highland we went.
Our first stop, and the best stop of the whole one-day trip - Green View Garden.

Strawberry goodies - Cakes, strudels, puddings, salad and chocolates.

We had this strawberry cheesecake.

And strawberry strudel.
Fresh strawberry juice.

Chocolate fondue. Served with strawberries, chocolate love letters and marshmallows.

Yummy!
There were so many pit stop cum vegetables/flower/ fruit farm cum rest and relax cum dining cum shopping area scattered around Ringlets, Tanah Rata, Brinchang and in between but this place is by far the best. It was spacious and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The wide array of western food and desserts makes me want to return for more.
The rest of the trip though, was not as good. Remember the Watercress Valley that I USED TO give good reviews of? I retract back my statement. If you happen to pass by there, don’t stop. Move ahead to somewhere else. That place had turned into a money sucking, tourist conning place. I should seen the telltale sign by the brand new Mercedes Benz parked right in front of their place.
They charge for every single thing and the food was cutthroat expensive. They charge RM0.30 for toilets and RM1.00 just for looking at the watercress! I don’t see the reason to charge people for looking at the farm when it is free in other farms. There were nothing impressive anyway, unlike beautiful flowers or fruits. They even closed the dining section so that the view is not accessible unless you dine in.
As for dining in, well for a steamboat meal consist of a soup base, a small basket of vegetables, ten meatballs, three stuffed chillies, three stuffed bean curd skin, ten suikow, two balls of noodles and two glasses of drinks, we were charged a whooping RM72.00. Despite the price stated in the menu, they will over charge you, knowing fully well that once you left you can’t make any complaints anyway.
So, be careful.

It was very nostalgic seeing this ahpek managing his cut fruit stall in front of the stage in Jonker Street. He reminded me of my late grandparents, who used to peddle cut fruits in front of Cathay cinema almost half a century ago.
Back then, as I heard, cut fruit stalls sell snack and tidbits, alongside with fruits in front of the cinemas in the good old days. Traditionally these stalls sell pickled fruits, asambois, local fruits such as guava, pineapples, papaya and watermelon slices.
Cut fruit stalls nowadays cater for a much more exotic taste bud by including fruits such as dragonfruit, chokanan mangoes, umbra, ciku, kiwi, cherries, water chestnuts, cherry tomatoes and Korean pears. Some even sell steamed corns! They still sell asambois and pickled fruit though, which gives me the old school feeling. Asam powder and salt are provided if you want to enhance the taste of your cut fruit. Business is brisk because people nowadays prefer to have their fruits peeled and cut.

The pitaya which is also known as pitahaya, dragon fruit, huǒ lóng guǒ - 火龍果/火龙果 lit. ‘fire dragon fruit’, strawberry pear, nanettikafruit, or thanh long is the fruit of several cactus species, especially of the genus Hylocereus, but also see Stenocereus. Native to Mexico and Central and South America, these vine-like epiphytic cacti are also cultivated in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia. They are also found in Taiwan, Okinawa, Israel, and southern China. The pitaya blooms only at night; they are large white fragrant flowers, typical of cactus, that are often called Moonflower or Queen of the Night.
From dictionary.com

I’ve been saying that I don’t like to eat dragon fruit previously and even avoided drinking the dragon fruit juice after going all the way to the dragon fruit farm because the one and only time I tasted dragon fruit it doesn’t appeal to my tastebud at all. This time round I should retract my stand for a bit: I actually don’t mind the fruit after tasting it this time round, many thanks to my sister’s persistence that I should eat some fruit, because I was down with some illness and could do good with the nice colour of the fruit.

The easiest way to eat this fruit is just to cut them into halves and scoop the flesh with spoon. Of course, if you are serving it, you can try cutting them into squares and dig them out with spoon like what I did with the mangoes. Careful with the juice though, they stain easily.

A continuation of my ZenXin Organic Farm trip.
Ohya, dragon fruit is also known as pitaya fruit!
While we can’t find any dragon fruit for sale there, dragon fruit juice we found, and a mighty colourful juice, I would say!

Dragon fruit juice and dragon fruit juice with pineapple.

The fruit juice bar. Very busy place! Trust the entrepreneurs to come up with such a great idea for business, serving all-natural, feel good beverages and food right in the heart of an organic farm. Brilliant!

Another shot of those flamboyant juices with a price tag of RM4.50 each! I like (the colour)!

Okay, this is my drink. Organic papaya and milk. for RM4.50 per glass its not cheap, but the feel good factor is just darn satisfying!

Dragonfruit ice lolly. To tell the truth, despite the colour and the wholesome goodness, I still don’t like the dragonfruitty taste. (Yeah, I know, going all the way, but detesting it)

The rest of the menu. I wish I actually ate something there, but since I arrived there with a full stomach on a sweltering hot Sunday afternoon, the appetite is next to none. Some other time, I swear!
Do check out my previous dragonfruit post!

My first trip to Kluang, and it is actually to this place, OMG! I didn’t know that I am so into organic that I have to visit this ZenXin Organic Park after reading about the food and the steamboat from sloppy chic.

I supposed the trip does a lot of good after all, because, for one I get to explore a wee bit on Johor with a starting point in Muar, and the feel good aura from all the greenery is good for unwinding all the study stress (cheewah! like I study a lot, kihkihkihkih!)

Actually, I was so curious about the dragonfruit that I MUST go and take a look at it. Suaku me.

Ok, erm. I saw! This is the dragonfruit flower buds, which I was told that they only bloom at night.

When there’s flower, theres fruit! Saw the unripe, green dragon fruit?

Ripening dragonfruit (or dragon fruit?) is always wrapped to protect the fruit from insects and preys.

Peekaboo! Nice pink dragonfruit hidden behind plastic!
That’s all for now. Will blog about the rest later!
