This Ho G chicken rice stall in Batu Berendam is situated along the road heading towards pasar borong, near the traffic light. First time I ate here was the time Anwar gave his ceramah in pasar borong, so the whole street was literally jam packed. I wanted to go to the ceramah as well, but it was just so jammed!

This place is kinda new, and they opens until late at night.
Chilli sauce, the soul of chicken rice. Theirs was alright. Nothing spectacular that will evoke fireworks.

White cut chicken, barbecued pork and roasted pork. Yummy!

Comes with sauce, vegetables soup and two rice at about RM14 I guess? Can’t quite remember but it is cheaper than Heng Kee for sure.

Koong Woh Tong herbal jelly. I’ve seen this name when I was a kid and they were in Petaling Street! Or is it? They have since expanded and Koong Woh Tong franchise is almost everywhere. This shop is in Aeon Bukit Tinggi.

Their herbal jelly is available in two sizes, and you can share if you can’t finish. They provide small bowls. Taste wise, they do taste a lot like Chang Chun. As far as I know, it was made with almost the same herb, no?

Nice wall paintings.

Old school, er I mean, antique wall decorations.

Where there’s herbal jelly, there’s herbal tea. They come hand in hand, no doubt. Koong Woh Tong’s herbal tea is just so- so, though.

Big urn containing herbal jelly. Oooh, oozing with traditionalism, I like!

More Wong Kok food photos, something else other than rice.

I recalled that I use to lament why there isn’t any Hong Kong food restaurant in Malacca when they were mushrooming all over the country. Not anymore. Hongkie food pwned Melaka!

The place was bustling and the business is brisk, but I have to say that they get the orders right, and the taste was alright. The twin sauce pork chop rice, nicely presented in such a narrow and long bowl.

In terms of value for money, do try out the hotplate set meal which cost around twenty or so bucks. They come together with soup, appetizers, desserts and drinks, and the portion is quite impressive as well.

This hotplate set comes with chicken, pork and beef. All sorts of meat, ekeke.

You have a choice of sauces to choose from! This is garlic sauce.
I guess it will be sometime before I visit Wong Kok again.

Bacon and ham mantou @ Wong Kok Char Chan Teng, in Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka. The place is visible if you pass by the road in between Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan.
We had rice! JY, WS and me ordered three different rice.

My lap mei rice. It was right before Chinese New Year and I was kind hyper with lap mei. It actually tasted quite rich.

Minced pork and potato rice. This is a very homely dish. Makes me think of the good old home cooking.

Pineapple chicken rice. Tad disappointing because there were no real pineapples.
I don’t really fancy all the corn sprinklings on the rice, I don’t usually eat them but now that they sprinkled it I had to. Must request them to do without those next time.
Stay tuned for more Wong Kok Char Chan Teng photos!

What is the best thing about going back hometown? Well, the food of course! Nothing beats having familiar, comfort food with the family.
Steamed fish with light soy sauce and oil! About the only way I eat fish aside from those Japanese-y cooking. I really, really like fish served this way. I only had this when I am back in hometown in
this restaurant, as they serve the best steamed fish in town.

Stirfried beans and brinjals in sambal udang. Delish!

Unshelled mantis prawns, which is not much of a looker but tasted terrific.

Juicy, succulent mantis prawns! Beats those peeled and deep fried mantis prawn dishes any day.
