meh sistah

On the way back from Penang, we dropped by Ipoh to spend a day stuffing ourselves silly with Ipoh food. One of the must eat places we went were this Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker, which houses the famous Big Tree Foot (大树脚) yong tau fu, or stuffed assorted thingies.

ytf

Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker or, in my lovely Cantonese dialect, “Tai Shu Keok” is a yong tau fu lover’s paradise.

yongtofu

The variety of stuffed things here was unbelievable; aside from the normal red/green chilies, brinjals, longbeans, beancurd skin and wantan, they even have stuffed eggs and arrowroots and some things that I couldn’t identify.

egg

Er, stuffed egg?

Aside from that, this place also has a decent mixture of different stalls selling stirfried noodles and charkuetiau (locals say it is nice), porridge, spring rolls, prawn crackers and snacks.

popia

Spring rolls stuffed with boiled turnips and other vegetables. Fondly known as popiahs.

yam cake

Steamed yam cake topped with crispy shallots and dried shrimps.

prawn crackers

Prawn crackers. Literally deep fried small prawns in thick flour batter.

luica

I ordered a Hakka luicha, a healthy fare consisting of rice, a myriad of vegetables, peanuts and dried shrimps, eaten together with a concoction of tea and herbs gravy.

porridge

Very soft and mushy porridge. Very flavourful too.

Stay tuned for a post dedicated to drinks selling at this Big Tree Foot (大树脚) Roadside Hawker. Yep, they deserve a post on their own!
