De-shelling Cooked Mantis Prawn

I like anything prawns so, naturally I love mantis prawns. Most restaurants serve shelled mantis prawn, coated and fried in flour. While I also love those, the shelled ones taste very much original and full of flavour than those without shells.

My favourite mantis prawn, cooked in shells. A tad too troublesome to eat, but trust me the effort pays off with the succulent meat.

It is not that hard to deshell a mantis prawn. Firstly, chop of the “head” thingy.

Then, pry open from the side.

Slowly, gently scrap it off the bottom shell, and voila! Perfectly shelled mantis prawns!

Takes some practice to get it right, but rewarding nonetheless!
