Sakae Sushi

Written on April 5, 2007 – 5:20 pm | by Jo |

My ever whiney sis will always lament that she can’t get decent food back in Sarawak due to transportation constraints or whatnots, so usually she would come back and go berserk wanting to eat this and that. So, since it was her birthday last time and we were in The Curve, we tried out Sakae Sushi. Ever since that, I find myself kinda reluctant to patronize Sushi King. Ever.

The menu in Sakae covers a wider range of Japanese food and for the quality and presentation, the price is totally worth it. They are totally savvy too. You order by clicking on the menu displayed on an LCD screen and they have hot water tap for each table to refill for the green teas. Total coolness. Total techiness. I don’t even need to wave for a waiter.

gyu niku udon

My favourite gyu niku udon. As usual. The soup was flavourful and the meat were tender. However, it was a bit plain, as you can see, what you see is all I get.

sukiyaki nabe

Beef sukiyaki. The soup contains onions, spring onions, straw mushrooms, carrot slices, shiitake mushrooms and japanese cabbage. Very flavourful. I like.

beef

Raw beef! Beef slices! Beefiness! Cook them in the sukiyaki soup and you can adjust how rare you want them to be.

sukiyaki nabe set

The whole set of sukiyaki-ness. Good til the last drop. Although the eggs should be cooked sooner else it will be… bleh

ten don

Ten don. This has more prawn fritters and they are generous with the crunchy fried dough. I like also!

soft shell crab temaki

The soft shell crab temaki. Those soft shell crabs are freshly fried to crisps, and I darn well wished that they were free flow. Tough luck though.

kakiage

Kakiage. Julienned capsicum, eggplants and carrot dipped in batter and deep fried. Some vegetables are good for everyone.

sake

Blame me for being gluttony. I just can’t resist sake. Raw salmon on vinegared rice. The fact that it is cheaper than SK is a plus plus point too.

This place rocks. The service was good, the waiters are a sporting bunch that doesn’t mind all the flashy camera flash, so as long as their faces are not in it, or so said the waiter who brought us our food. They have cute cute kids meal too, but only those under 12 can place an order. What a pity. I want to order one-leh!
